Make Decoding Automatic – workshop by Dr. Phyllis Fischer

Posted in Uncategorized at 4:24 am by daytonread

Dr. Phyllis E. Fischer – author, professor, researcher, consultant – will be coming to southwestern Ohio to present Make Decoding Automatic!, a one-day professional development workshop at:

The Holiday Inn Cincinnati-I-275 in Sharonville, OH on Friday, December 11, 2009.

In this limited-enrollment workshop, Dr. Fischer will show you how to use her techniques to develop decoding automaticity in beginning or struggling readers.

These materials provide a flexible, efficient, research-based supplement to any phonics program.  This makes them particularly useful for RTI and Tiered Instruction. Her remarkably effective, timesaving techniques come from more than 30 years of research, teaching, and clinical practice.

The fee is $195, including continental breakfast and lunch.  No additional purchased materials are required.  For more information about this workshop, including the early-bird or group rate discount available until November 25, see www.oxtonhouse.com. You may register online through this website or by calling 1-800-539-7323 toll-free.

Don’t miss this opportunity to learn first-hand from a successful pioneer in decoding automaticity!

DaytonREAD ~ April Meeting

Posted in Uncategorized at 1:44 am by daytonread

Dayton READ will be meeting this Thursday, April 16 from 6:45-8:15 at the Kettering-Moraine Library.

This month we’ll view and discuss portions of the national documentary: Demystifying Dyslexia.
An estimated 10 to 15 percent — one in every 10 Americans — suffers to some degree from dyslexia, an often misunderstood learning difficulty characterized by problems with word recognition and poor spelling. Hosted by Olympic champion Bruce Jenner, DEMYSTIFYING DYSLEXIA profiles inspiring individuals confronting the challenges of living with dyslexia. Compelling personal stories, innovative educational methods and cutting-edge scientific research highlight the important contemporary issues surrounding dyslexia. The program also offers valuable insight into the inner-workings of the dyslexic mind and provides parents and teachers guidance for reaching a dyslexic child.
